The talented young Claudia Jensen and the experienced Spanish player Carla Mesa have eliminated one of the favorite couples, Ortega and Gonzalez, in the last sixteen of the WPT Vienna Open, giving the first big surprise of the women’s draw.
In a match marked by breaks – there were 13 in total – the number fifteen couple managed to beat the number three couple 7-5/6-2 to advance to the next round.
“The match was tough from the beginning, with many breaks on both sides, but we managed to be more solid in the end. I want to congratulate Claudia, who played a great match,” said Carla Mesa after the match.

After emerging champions at the Danish Open, Ortega and Gonzalez have now lost in two consecutive tournaments in their round of 16 debut.
Mesa and Jensen have reached the quarter-finals for the third time this season. Tomorrow, they will look for their place in the semis after facing the winner of the match between Talavan/Araujo and Riera/Llaguno.
